Safe+Sound Somerset offers assistance to survivors who are navigating the often overwhelming legal system during crisis. We have a strong partnership with Somerset County Family Court who welcomes support from our team of legal advocates who help victims understand domestic violence laws, their rights within the legal system and the process of obtaining a court order of protection (restraining order). Specifically, we are present at Domestic Violence Court, located at the Somerset County Court House, to provide:
-
Information about domestic violence law
-
Safety planning
-
Advocacy with law enforcement, court personnel and legal services
-
Legal clinics and pro bono individual consultations conducted by volunteer attorneys
Legal advocates are not attorneys and do not provide legal advice. We do refer clients to Legal Services of Northern New Jersey, if they meet the low-income requirements.
Safe+Sound Somerset is determined to continue to improve the administration of justice for survivors of domestic violence in Somerset County through our Legal Advocacy program. If you need any further information on our Legal Advocacy program, please call or text our 24-hour hotline at 866.685.1122.
