The Power of “Something New”

Power-of-Something-New

Have you ever felt a boost in self-esteem and confidence from a new suit for a job interview or haircut before a special meeting?

At Safe+Sound Somerset, as part of our trauma-informed philosophy, we believe that new clothing and needed items can help survivors feel nurtured, beautiful and confident during an especially trying time in their life. These things help transform and empower our clients by inspiring them to look beyond their daily struggles and realize their worth.

That is why we prefer donations of gift cards for our clients because they empower survivors to make choices about the items they need for themselves and their families. Often, this is the first time in a very long while that these survivors have had the freedom to make these types of decisions to take care of themselves.

How you can help:
  • First, financial gifts to Safe+Sound Somerset allow us to use these resources where they are most needed whether it be to cover the costs of our staffing, overhead or purchase items on behalf of our clients. To make a one-time or recurring month gift online, go to: safe-sound.org/donation.
  • We also accept donations of NEW, UNUSED clothing, personal items and household gifts for our clients, as well as gift cards.
  • Shop-Rite gift cards are useful for survivors who shop at our pantry for many food, toiletry and household items, but need to purchase perishable items such as dairy, vegetables, fruit and meat.
  • Walmart, Target and Amazon cards enable survivors to purchase the widest variety of items they need as they are building lives free from abuse, including clothing for themselves and their children, and household items if they are setting up a new home.
